James Forrest

Date of Fellowship admission: 20 November 1696
James Forrest received his medical degree from the University of Leiden on 12 June 1691. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 20 November 1696. Forrest served as President of the College from December 1719 until his death in December 1722, becoming the first President to die in office. Following his death, Dr William Eccles acted as President until the next election day.

William Gardyne

William Gardyne received his medical degree from the University of Harderwijk on 25 March 1697. He obtained his licence to practise on 27 April 1698 and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1699.

John Hay

John Hay received his medical degree from Marischal College, Aberdeen on 21 January 1701. He was licensed to practise on 16 November 1702 and admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 19 November that same year.

John Riddell

Date of Fellowship admission: 26 November 1702
John Riddell received his medical degree from the University of Reims on 31 December 1700. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 26 November 1702. The Edinburgh Orphan Hospital was founded in 1713 for 'helpless orphans and distressed infants of indigent parents' and incorporated by royal charter in 1742 as the Orphan Hospital and Workhouse of Edinburgh. During the first century of the orphanage's existence, many Fellows of the College, including Riddell, served as governors. Riddell also served as President of the College from 1731 to 1735.

John Sinclair

John Sinclair petitioned the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh for admission by examination in November 1702. He was examined by Andrew Eizat and David Mitchell and after a satisfactory second examination, was admitted as a Fellow on 26 November 1702.

John Munro

Date of Fellowship admission: 7 January 1704
John Munro was the third son of Sir Alexander Munro of Bearcrofts, Commissary of Stirling. He was initially apprenticed to the Edinburgh surgeon William Borthwick of Pilmuir from April 1687, and later studied in Padua and Leiden, where he was a pupil of Archibald Pitcairne. Munro served in the army under William of Orange and, after resigning his commission, joined the Incorporation of Surgeons, becoming Deacon in 1712. He received his medical degree from the University of Aberdeen on 17 November 1691 and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 7 January 1704. Munro is credited with playing a central role in the founding of the University of Edinburgh Medical School and in creating a medical seminary in Scotland.

John Drummond

Date of Fellowship admission: 7 January 1704
John Drummond received his medical degree from Marischal College, Aberdeen on 27 May 1699. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 7 January 1704 and served as President from December 1722 until November 1727. Drummond was one of twelve individuals appointed to a committee for collecting subscriptions and planning the management of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The committee hired a small house for receiving the sick poor and appointed twenty managers to oversee its running. Drummond served as a physician to the Infirmary. A printed catalogue of Drummond's library was presented to the College in 1740. Among his collection was a fifteenth-century copy of the 'Cursor Mundi'.

William Stewart

William Stewart received his medical degree from the University of St Andrews on 24 July 1704. He petitioned the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh for a licence to practise on 28 July 1704 and was admitted without examination that same day. Stewart was admitted as a Fellow of the College on 15 August 1704 and served as President from 1716 until 1719.
