Working in the UK (IMG & MTI)

Join us in the UK to support the NHS

The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh welcomes international medical graduates (IMGs) who wish to join us in the UK and support the NHS. IMGs make valuable contributions to patient care, and this programme is designed to ensure they are well supported as they transition into UK clinical practice. The College is an official sponsor of the Medical Training Initiative (MTI), a UK Government scheme that allows international medical graduates to train in the NHS for up to two years.

  • Gain up to two years of structured training in the UK through the MTI scheme

  • Contribute to the NHS while developing your clinical skills

  • Receive support from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh during your transition

  • Build experience in UK clinical practice and healthcare systems

  • Access guidance and resources to help you settle into life in the UK

  • Enhance your career opportunities and professional development internationally

"Participation in the MTI was the best thing that has happened to me in my career."

About the MTI Scheme

The Medical Training Initiative (MTI) is a UK Government scheme that gives international medical graduates the chance to spend up to two years training in the NHS. Through the scheme, you can gain hands-on experience in UK hospitals, develop your clinical practice, and contribute directly to patient care.

We aim to tailor each training plan to your educational and career objectives, helping you gain the skills and experience that will support the work you plan to undertake in your home country.

If you need more information or would like support with your application, visit our Frequently Asked Questions below or email mti@rcpe.ac.uk
