The Tuanku Muhriz Fellowships – UK and Malaysia

Learn more about opportunities provided by The Tuanku Muhriz Fellowship

The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh is committed to supporting physicians to learn, share knowledge, and develop their understanding of healthcare through international experience. The Tuanku Muhriz Fellowships reflect this commitment by offering doctors the opportunity to experience medical care delivery in different healthcare systems, cultures, and clinical environments.

Delivered in partnership with the College of Physicians of Malaysia (COPM) and the Malaysian Advanced Acute Internal Medicine and Ultrasound Society (MAAIMUS), the Tuanku Muhriz Fellowships support reciprocal learning between the United Kingdom and Malaysia, strengthening professional links and promoting shared understanding of international medical practice.

Through these Fellowships, physicians are able to spend two weeks gaining first-hand experience of medical care in a different healthcare setting. Opportunities are available for UK-based doctors to experience healthcare delivery in Malaysia, and for Malaysia-based doctors to observe clinical services within the UK National Health Service (NHS).

Tuanku Muhriz Fellowship – UK to Malaysia

This Fellowship offers UK-trained physicians the opportunity to experience healthcare delivery throughout Malaysia. Fellows spend time in remote and rural settings as well as urban environments, gaining exposure to tropical medicine and developing a deeper understanding of Malaysia’s healthcare system.

Placements are arranged in hospitals and clinics across mainland Malaysia, with local partners providing support with accommodation and transport.

Making change: advancing healthcare

Tuanku Muhriz Fellowship – Malaysia to UK

This Fellowship enables physicians based in Malaysia to experience healthcare delivery within the UK NHS. Fellows gain exposure across geriatric medicine, acute medicine, and palliative care, supporting professional development and offering insight into UK clinical services and healthcare organisation.

Both Fellowships are designed to promote professional development, international collaboration, and the exchange of clinical knowledge. Successful applicants receive financial support to assist with travel and subsistence and are expected to share learning from their Fellowship through a completion report and professional dissemination activities.
