David Boswell Reid was born in Edinburgh in 1805 and graduated MD from the University of Edinburgh in 1830. He taught practical chemistry at the university before leaving to run private classes when a proposed chair of practical chemistry was rejected. In 1840 he moved to London as practical engineer to the Palace of Westminster, designing steam-powered ventilation systems and producing public sanitation reports. Reid later moved to the United States, lectured at the Smithsonian Institution and served as inspector of military hospitals during the American Civil War. He died in Washington in 1863.

John Mackenzie was born in 1803 and graduated MD at the University of Edinburgh in 1824. He left medicine in 1832 to become a farmer and wrote extensively on agricultural improvement. Mackenzie died in Inverness in 1886.

Montgomery Robertson was born in 1806. He became a Licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1825 and received his MD from the University of Aberdeen on 16 October 1829. Robertson was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 7 February 1832 and in the same year became an Ordinary Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. In 1832 he published 'On the Medicinal Effects of the Salts of Morphia' in the Edinburgh Medical and Surgical Journal. He later became a Licentiate of the Society of Apothecaries in 1835 and practised as a physician in Edinburgh and Mortlake, Surrey. Robertson died in 1878.

Andrew Combe was born in Edinburgh, the son of George Combe, a brewer. He was educated at Edinburgh High School and attended Latin and Greek classes at the University of Edinburgh. At the age of fifteen he began a three-year apprenticeship with an Edinburgh surgeon and attended lectures in anatomy and chemistry. He became a Licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1817 and subsequently studied in Paris under Dupuytren and Spurzheim. A prominent phrenologist, he founded the Edinburgh Phrenological Society, the first of its kind in the UK, with his brother in 1820, and was one of the founders of the Phrenological Journal in 1823. In 1827, he was elected President of the Edinburgh Phrenological Society. 
 

John Home Peebles attained his MD on 30 September 1828. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 7 August 1832. During the 1830s and 1840s Peebles published several papers, including contributions to the Edinburgh Medical and Surgical Journal. He served as Physician to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Physician to the British Factory at Leghorn (Livorno).

David Craigie was born in 1793. He received his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh in 1816 and went on to serve as Physician to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Craigie died in 1866.

Peter Fairbairn studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh from 1811 to 1817. He graduated MD in 1819 and published his dissertation 'Dissertatio medica inauguralis, de morbo coxario' in the same year. Fairbairn was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1833.

Thomas Stewart Traill lived from 1781 to 1862. He studied at the University of Edinburgh from 1799 to 1801 and became a member of the Royal Medical Society in 1801. He graduated MD in 1802 and practised as a physician in Liverpool for thirty years, serving as President of the Royal Institution Liverpool. In 1832 he returned to Edinburgh as Regius Professor of Medical Jurisprudence and Medical Police at the University of Edinburgh. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1833. In 1840 his 'Outlines of a Course of Lectures on Medical Jurisprudence' was published. Traill served as President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh from 1852 to 1854.

Alexander George Home was the son of Captain Home of Whitfield. He received his MD from the University of Edinburgh on 1 August 1823 and published his dissertation 'Dissertatio medica inauguralis, quaedam de scrofula complectens'. Home served as Resident Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and later practised medicine in Paris for six months. He then served for fourteen years with the 2nd Dragoons as hospital assistant, assistant surgeon and surgeon, retiring in 1852. Home died at his residence in Portobello on 17 September 1875.

Jacob Dickson Hunter studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh from 1824 to 1826 and became a member of the Royal Medical Society in 1826. He graduated MD from the University of Edinburgh in 1831.
