Herbert Lindesay Watson Wemyss was born in Broughty Ferry in 1886. He graduated MB from the University of Edinburgh in 1908 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1914. He worked as Clinical Tutor at the Royal Infirmary, Physician at Leith Hospital, and later Assistant Physician to the Royal Infirmary, Physician to the Royal Public Dispensary and Deaconess Hospital, and Medical Adviser to the Scottish Life Assurance Company. His publications include 'Arythraemia' (1911) and 'The Treatment of the Amoebic Carrier' (1918). He died in 1933.

William Leslie Lyall was born in Scoonie in 1875. He graduated MB from the University of Edinburgh in 1896 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1915. He held posts including Mining Ambulance Lecturer at Heriot-Watt College, Lecturer and Examiner at the St Andrew's Ambulance Association, and Clinical Assistant and Non-Resident Physician at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. His publications include 'The Tuberculosis Movement in Scotland' (1913) and 'The Edinburgh Tuberculosis System' (1914). He died in 1949.

William Elliot Carnegie Dickson was born in Edinburgh in 1878, the son of George Dickson, a medical practitioner. He graduated MB CM from the University of Edinburgh in 1901 and MD in 1905. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1908. His appointments in Edinburgh included Assistant Pathologist at the Royal Infirmary, Lecturer in Pathology and Bacteriology at the University of Edinburgh, and Pathologist and Bacteriologist to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children. He later moved to London to continue his career in pathology. He was the author of 'The Bone-Marrow' (1908) and 'Bacteriology: Man's Microbe Friends and Foes' (1914). He died in 1954.

Charles John Shaw graduated MD from the University of Edinburgh in 1906 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1908. He worked in Scotland as Senior Assistant Medical Officer at Glasgow Royal Asylum, Gartnavel, Assistant Medical Officer at Murthly District Asylum, and Medical Officer at Argyll and Bute District Asylum. His publications include 'Opsonic Index to Various Organisms in the Sane and Insane with Results Produced by Injecting Tuberculin' (1907) and 'Clinical Results following Injection of Tuberculin' (1908).

Alexander Hill Buchan graduated MB from the University of Edinburgh in 1893 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1909. He worked in Edinburgh as Assistant Physician and Resident Physician at Leith Hospital and as Clinical Assistant at the Victoria Hospital for Consumption. His publications include 'Some Aspects of Alcoholism' (1905), 'Cases of Congenital Anaemia with Jaundice' (1906), and 'Cases of Congenital Anaemia Associated with Jaundice and Enlargement of the Spleen' (1909).

Sir William Leslie Mackenzie was born in Easter Ross in 1862. He graduated MA from the University of Aberdeen in 1883, MB in 1888, obtained a Diploma in Public Health in 1890, and graduated MD from the University of Edinburgh in 1895. He served as Resident Assistant Physician at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Medical Officer of Health for Leith, and adviser to the Scottish Local Government Board, and held numerous appointments on national commissions. He died in Edinburgh in 1935.

Edward Collett Hort was born in Hertfordshire in 1868, the son of the Revd F A J Hort, Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge. He qualified at Guy's Hospital in 1896 and gained the Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 1905. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1909. His research in bacteriology and serology at King's College and the Lister Institute led to his appointment as Honorary Physician and Director of the Bacteriological Staff at Addington Park War Hospital. His publications include 'Use and Abuse of Tuberculin' (1911), 'Micro-organisms and Their Relation to Fever' (1912), and 'Normal and Immune Serum Therapy' (1914). He died in Cannes in 1922.

James Mair Rutherford graduated MB from the University of Edinburgh in 1894, won the Gaskell Prize in psychiatry in 1906, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1909. He worked in Scotland and England, including posts at Brislington House, Bristol, the Royal Edinburgh Asylum, and Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

James Ritchie was born in Duns, Berwickshire, in 1864, the son of the Revd W Ritchie of the United Presbyterian Church. He graduated MD from the University of Edinburgh in 1895. After early work in Oxford in bacteriology and pathology, he was appointed Professor in 1905 and Fellow of New College, Oxford. In 1907 he became Director of the Laboratory of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and was elected a Fellow of the College in 1909. He was appointed Chair of Bacteriology at the University of Edinburgh in 1913. His publications include 'Manual of Bacteriology' (1897) and 'Textbook of General Pathology' (1913). He died in 1923.

James Miller graduated MD with Gold Medal from the University of Edinburgh in 1903 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1910. He worked as Assistant Pathologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Assistant Surgeon at the Edinburgh South African Hospital, and Pathologist at Birmingham General Hospital. He was a member of the Pathological Society of Great Britain and the Anatomical Society. His publications include 'Histogenesis of the Tubercle' (1904), 'Changes of Elastic Fibre of Lung' (1905), and 'Early Case of Acute Poliomyelitis' (1907).
