Frederic John Bird received his medical degree from the University of St Andrews on 4 May 1841. He was an ovariotomist and published on ovarian tumours, including 'The successful removal of ovarian tumours' (Medical Gazette, 1843) and 'Reports of practice illustrative of the diagnosis, treatment and pathology of ovarian tumours' (Medical Times, 1851). He served as senior physician to the Westminster Maternity Charity and the Metropolitan Free Hospital and also published on botany. Bird became a Fellow on 2 February 1858 and died in 1874.

James George Atkinson received his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh on 2 August 1841 and served as physician to the Wakefield General Dispensary from 1857. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 9 February 1858.

James Gammel Stewart received his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh on 1 August 1846 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 9 February 1858.

Donald Cochrane Campbell received his medical degree from the University of Glasgow on 24 April 1844 and held both a doctorate in medicine and a diploma in surgery. From October 1841 he served as assistant medical officer at the Royal Lunatic Asylum, Glasgow, then became resident physician at Aberdeen Asylum. He later served as resident physician and then superintendent of the county lunatic asylum at Brentwood, Essex. Campbell became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 4 May 1858, authored 'Hints on the Management of Lunatic Asylums', was a member of the Aberdeen Medico-Chirurgical Society and died on 8 August 1884.

William Finlay received his medical degree from the University of St Andrews on 6 May 1845 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 18 May 1858. He married Anne, daughter of Robert Bannatyne, and his son was Robert Bannatyne Finlay, 1st Viscount Finlay.

Joseph Seaton received his medical degree from the University of St Andrews on 6 May 1845. He served as resident medical officer of the Northern Dispensary and the Royal General Dispensary, St Pancras. His publications include 'Practical observations and suggestions on the treatment of mental affections' (1846) and 'The present state and prospects of psychological medicine, with suggestions for improving the care and treatment of lunatics' (1853). He was a Fellow of the Medical Society of London and a member of the British Medical Association, and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 18 May 1858.

Thomas Harrington Tuke was born in 1826, the son of Edward Francis Tuke MD (c.1776-1846). He studied at St George's Hospital and also in Edinburgh and Paris, became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1847, and received his MD from the University of St Andrews in 1849. In 1846 he took charge of The Manor House, Chiswick, a private asylum founded by his father. He served as honorary secretary (1864-1872) and president (1873) of the Medico-Psychological Association and was an honorary member of several European colleges. He married Sophia Jane Connolly in 1852 and died in 1888.

Daniel Rutherford Haldane served as resident physician at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and studied in Vienna and Paris before returning to Edinburgh as an infirmary physician and lecturer at Surgeons' Hall. He served as secretary and president of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and represented the College on the General Medical Council.

Thomas Tozer Wingett was born in Crichton and received his medical degree from the University of St Andrews on 4 August 1846. He served as medical superintendent of the Dundee Royal Lunatic Asylum and assistant physician at the Royal Edinburgh Asylum, Morningside. Wingett became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 3 May 1853 and was a long-standing member of the Edinburgh Medico-Chirurgical Society.

William Rutherford Sanders was born in Edinburgh in 1828 and studied at Montpellier before graduating MD from the University of Edinburgh in 1849. After further study in Paris and Heidelberg, he became pathologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in 1852 and later professor of pathology at the University of Edinburgh in 1869. Sanders died in Edinburgh in 1881.
