Iran War Statement

09 March 2026

The College is deeply concerned by the escalating conflict in Iran and the wider region. We urgently call for de-escalation.

Reports already indicate that many civilians have been killed or injured in recent days, including children, with the human toll continuing to rise. Every civilian death or injury is a tragedy. Our thoughts are with all those caught up in conflict zones, including families who have lost loved ones and communities living in fear.

At times of war, the protection of civilians, humanitarian staff and healthcare workers – including many of our Fellows and Members working in the Middle East - must be an absolute priority. Hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities must never be targeted and they must be allowed to function safely, so they can care for those in need.

All actors in this conflict must respect international humanitarian law and ensure that medical services, staff and buildings are protected. Above all, we urge immediate steps to reduce violence and protect civilian lives.
