The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh is seeking an experienced and influential Fellow to Chair its AI and Digital Strategy Committee.
Digital technologies and artificial intelligence are rapidly reshaping healthcare and clinical practice. This new leadership role offers an opportunity to help shape the College’s approach to these developments and ensure the voice of physicians is represented in discussions around the safe, effective and equitable adoption of AI and digital technology.
As Chair, you will provide strategic leadership to the Committee and help establish the College as a credible and influential voice in digital health, across the UK and internationally.
You will work with Members, Fellows and external partners to help the College:
influence policy and debate around AI, digital health, safety, ethics and equity
identify emerging technologies and their potential impact on clinical care
support research and evaluation of digital health and AI
strengthen digital and AI capability through the College’s educational activity
ensure innovation remains grounded in evidence, clinical effectiveness and improved patient outcomes
advise College Council on emerging opportunities, priorities and risks.
The Chair will also represent the College externally, building relationships with leaders across healthcare, academia, policy and digital innovation.
About you
Applicants must be UK Fellows of the College in good standing and from a physicianly specialty.
We are looking for someone with recognised professional credibility and experience in innovation, digital health, data or artificial intelligence in healthcare. You should have a strong understanding of clinical effectiveness, quality and patient outcomes, alongside experience of influencing policy, strategy or system-level decision-making.
You will be a strategic and collaborative leader who can communicate complex digital and AI issues clearly, engage confidently with senior stakeholders and represent the perspectives of our Members and Fellows.
Experience of digital innovation or applied AI in clinical settings, working with professional bodies or international organisations, or academic and research leadership in digital health would be advantageous.
Time commitment and term
The anticipated time commitment is approximately one to two days per month, including quarterly Committee meetings and external engagement.
The appointment is for a three-year term, with the potential for renewal in line with College processes.
The Chair will be accountable to College Council.
