John Millar obtained his MD from Edinburgh in 1863, submitting a thesis entitled 'Contributions to palaeophytology'. He became a Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1864 and was elected a Fellow of the College in 1869. He was married to Christiana Duncan, who died on 19 August 1871, and they resided at 48 Albany Street, Edinburgh.

William James Hunt obtained his MD from St Andrews in 1870, having trained at Edinburgh and St George's Hospital, London. He became a Licentiate of the College in 1859 and a Fellow in 1869. He worked as a Physician at the City Dispensary, London, but spent much of his career in asylum practice. He served as Assistant Medical Superintendent of the Worcester County and City Lunatic Asylum before being appointed Resident Physician and Superintendent of Hoxton House Asylum. He also lectured on mental disorders at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School and published extensively on mental illness.

John Wyllie was born in Haddingtonshire in 1844 and obtained his MD from Edinburgh in 1865, having previously worked for two years as a resident at Birmingham General Hospital. After returning to Edinburgh, he was elected a Fellow of the College in 1870 and served as Secretary to the College from 1874 to 1884. He spent most of his career at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he served as Pathologist, Assistant Physician and Physician before being appointed Consulting Physician in 1897. In 1900 he was appointed Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. His research focused chiefly on the larynx and related disorders. His publications include 'The physiology of the larynx', published in the Edinburgh Medical Journal in 1866, and 'Disorders of speech', published in 1894. He died in Edinburgh on 25 January 1916.

James Andrew was born in Minto Street, Edinburgh, in 1844, sharing his name with both his father, a physician, and his grandfather, Principal of the East India Company's military seminary at Addiscombe. He obtained his MD from Edinburgh after study in Edinburgh, Vienna and Berlin. He held appointments at several Edinburgh institutions, including the Royal Dispensary and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, and served as Resident Physician and later Resident Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary. He became a Fellow of the College in 1870 and served as President from 1898 to 1900. He died in Edinburgh in 1911 and was buried in his college gown.

Charles Gage Brown was born in Dorset in 1826, the son of Commander Charles Brown of the Royal Navy. He was educated at King's College London and obtained his MD from St Andrews in 1851. Brown practised at Sloane Street, London, where he lived and worked for most of his life. He also served as Medical Adviser to the Colonial Office and to the Crown Agents for the Colonies from 1874 to 1897. Following his retirement, he was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George. He died on 13 August 1908.

Thomas Cossar obtained his MD from Edinburgh in 1841, having trained at Edinburgh and Paris, where he was a member of the Paris Medical Society. He worked for several years in the north east of England, serving as Resident Physician at an asylum in Cumberland and later as Visiting Physician at Dinsdale Park Retreat, Durham. During this period he published 'An analysis of the mineral waters at Croft and Dinsdale, Durham'. His other publications include 'Case of hydrophobia', published in the British Medical Journal in 1867. He later worked as a physician at the West Norfolk and Lynn Hospital.

William Gordon obtained his MD from Edinburgh in 1862 for his thesis 'On therapeutics, past and present'. He became a Fellow of the College in 1870 and was also a Fellow of the Royal Scottish Society of Arts and of the Edinburgh Obstetrical Society.

Robert James Wilson became a Licentiate of the College in 1859 and a Fellow in 1871, having trained at Westminster Hospital. He spent much of his life in St Leonards on Sea, where he worked as surgeon to the Hastings and St Leonards Home for Invalid Gentlewomen and as physician to the Convalescent Home for Children. He was a Fellow of the Royal Medical and Chirurgical Society of London and of the Obstetrical Society of London, serving as Honorary Secretary of the latter. His publications include 'Case of vertical dislocation of patella', published in the Medical Times and Gazette in 1857.

William Watson Campbell was born in 1835 at Yetholm in the Scottish Borders, into a large family of physicians. He entered the University of Edinburgh intending to study divinity and join the United Presbyterian Church, but later transferred to medicine. He trained at the University of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, obtaining his MD in 1862. In 1863 he returned to the Borders to assist in his father's practice at Duns and succeeded to the practice following his father's death in 1865. He also served as medical officer to the nearby village of Swinton. His publications include 'Report on cannabis indica', published in the Medical Times and Gazette in 1863, and 'On diphtheria', published in the Edinburgh Medical Journal in 1867. He died at Duns in 1897.

William Ziegler, son of Alexander Ziegler, graduated MD from Edinburgh in 1849. He assisted his father in general and obstetric practice. Ziegler served as Physician to the Royal Maternity Hospital and Medical Officer to the Free Church Training College. He also examined in midwifery and medical jurisprudence for the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
