Dr Matthew King

Consultant Acute Medicine
Western General Hospital, Edinburgh

profile

Candidate statement

I am a consultant in Acute Medicine and co-TPD for Internal Medicine Stage 2 (IMS2) for Southeast Scotland. These roles give me first hand insight into the present state of front door medicine within our region and an excellent awareness of what issues are currently relevant to our senior trainees and consultants.

I have supported the college for many years most notably in the delivery of the PACES examination. I previously helped establish a College endorsed PACES preparation course and continue to be actively involved with hosting, chairing and examining. I previously represented the College at a PACES standard setting committee group, and I am a present member of the PACES written scenario vetting pool.

I have been actively involved with undergraduate education throughout my consultant career.   I continue to be a joint module lead for Edinburgh University and was previously in an undergraduate management lead role for NHS Lothian at my local hospital.

I held a NHS Clinical director position for 4 yrs and have skills in management which would be transferable to this position.
If appointed I would commit to promoting the important College roles of maintaining standards of training, education and clinical care.
