Overview

Join us in Leeds & online for the annual Medical Trainees Conference organised by the RCPE Trainees and Members' Committee. The programme and bookings will be open very soon. Please save the date in the meantime.

Who is this for

The conference is aimed at medical students, foundation doctors, internal medicine trainees, physician specialty trainees, SAS doctors and early-career consultants. It is particularly relevant to clinicians with an interest in general internal medicine, acute and emergency medicine, geriatrics, intensive care, cardiology, respiratory medicine, renal medicine, gastroenterology, endocrinology, infectious diseases, neurology and palliative medicine. The programme is also intended to be valuable for doctors considering physician specialties as a career, with selected sessions relevant to the wider multidisciplinary team.

Sir John Halliday Croom Lecture Submissions

Applications are invited from Collegiate Members of any UK Royal College of Physicians, working in the United Kingdom. The opportunity is competed for annually and the lecture will be invited to be delivered in person by the successful candidate at the upcoming Medical Trainees Conference.

The lecture is named after the late Sir John Halliday Croom, a past President of the College, in recognition of his support of the concept of Collegiate membership.

The lecture should be on a topic related to primary research which the entrant has been actively involved in within the last 5 years (literature reviews are not suitable). Candidates are asked to submit an outline of the proposed lecture, including a summary of their involvement in the research project and how they will make this an entertaining presentation for a general medical audience. The word limit is strictly 1000 words and any entries exceeding this will not be considered.

Clinical Lesson Submissions

Abstracts are invited from Collegiate Members, Associates & Medical Students and Foundation Year Members of any of the UK Royal Colleges (listed above) for the Clinical Lessons sessions at our Medical Trainees Conference. Those who have been chosen to present will be invited to deliver their talk in person at the conference.

Cases should be relevant to general medicine audience. Cases pertaining to different medical specialities (for example paediatrics or surgery) will not be considered. The submission should be an abstract and should follow the typical case report structure (i.e., history, examination, differential diagnoses, relevant investigation results, management) & highlight an important lesson from the case. The total abstract word limit is 250 words.

The highest scoring submission by a resident doctor and a medical student will be invited to present their case as an oral presentation. If your abstract is not accepted as a clinical lesson oral presentation then we may invite you to present your abstract as a moderated poster or poster on the day. This poster will be invited to be displayed in person on the day of the event and we will also ask you submit a PDF of your poster for our virtual attendees. Poster prizes will be awarded on the day.

Submission Guidance

QI & Audit Submissions

Submissions should be quality improvement projects (QIP) in which the entrant has been involved in designing or carrying out the project. Projects should have direct relevance to the practice of general internal medicine and its associated specialties. The submission should be an abstract and should detail their involvement in the project, quality improvement methodology used, results, impact of the project on the original aim and the sustainability of the project. The total abstract word limit is 250 words.

The highest scoring QIP will be selected to give an oral presentation at the Medical Trainee Conference on Friday 26 February 2027 in Leeds.

Cancellation policy

If you have to cancel your place within 14 days days of this event, we regret that we are unable to provide a refund.

The event will be available to view on-demand for 28 days after the live event, therefore, there is still an opportunity to view the talks if you are not able to attend on the day.

Certificates

All relevant events are approved for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). To receive a CPD certificate delegates must have completed the online feedback survey. The survey will close 28 days after the original broadcast of the event on 23.59 Thursday 25 March 2027, with certificates being issued shortly after this.

Certificates cannot be issued after the survey has closed.

Catch-up

Registered delegates can view this event on catch-up for up to 28 days following the live event until, i.e. until Thursday 25 March 2027. Please note that in line with Federation rules, the CPD period is 28 days from the live event. To obtain a CPD certificate you must have completed the online feedback survey by Thursday 25 March 2027.

If you are unable to attend this event live but would like to view this event for 28 days post-event and qualify for a CPD certificate (if feedback is completed), please register before the live event is due to take place in order to be given access. It is not possible to register for catch-up viewing after the live event has taken place.
