Empowering medical excellence, shaping healthcare futures.
It was a pleasure to welcome over 250 delegates to our annual RCPE Diabetes & Endocrinology Symposium on 9th October 2025. The symposium was held online and we had delegates joining from all over the world.
In a world of rapidly changing diabetes treatment and care, we started the day with an impressive overview of hot topics in diabetes management with a focus on new drugs, high risk groups and delivering effective diabetes care. We had a comprehensive review of the new and future GLP-1 like drugs from Professor Miras and a more in depth view of the exact roles of GLP-1 and GIP in diabetes and obesity from Professor Gribble.
Providing diabetes care is a ongoing challenge with increasing numbers of patients and limited resources. We heard about a new approach being piloted in Tayside, Scotland highlighting the success of innovation in this area.
In the afternoon, we moved to hot topics in Endocrinology with a focus on areas with new updates in drugs and guidance. The emergence of new monoclonal antibodies in osteoporosis offers an alternative to conventional anti-resorptive treatments and the evidence for this was presented by Professor Langdahl. We were lucky to hear from a leading endocrinologist in the field of thyroid disease in Professor Boelaert on managing thyroid disease in pregnancy with some interactive questions using Slido. To finish this session, Professor Stimson presented an update on management of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia with a focus on pragmatic management and a summary of potential future treatments.
We finished the day with two excellent talks from experts in the field of Reproductive Endocrinology with a focus on women’s health. Professor Mukerjee gave a clear and evidence-based update on managing menopause which has become a hotly debated topic recently. Finally, Professor Anderson gave a comprehensive overview of the management of hypogonadism in young women.
It was a thoroughly informative and enjoyable day and the organisers are very grateful to the speakers for their time and expertise.
Many thanks to all who joined us. RCPE Fellows & Members can catch up via the Education Portal if you missed the live stream of this excellent conference (not yet a member? Join today).
