Dr Basanta Khatiwada is a dedicated clinician from Nepal, currently serving as Registrar in Transfusion Medicine and Cellular Therapy at Civil Service Hospital, Kathmandu. He also holds the position of Assistant Professor in Clinical Haematology at the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), Nepal. He completed his MBBS from Tribhuvan University, Nepal, and earned his MD in Transfusion Medicine from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He is presently pursuing an MSc in Internal Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, aligning with his broader vision to integrate advanced internal medicine with transfusion and cellular therapy. 

Dr Khatiwada's clinical and research interests include patient blood management, clinical transfusion practices, classical haematology, and cellular therapy. Actively involved in international academic platforms, he serves as Co-chair of the Wikipedia Subgroup and member of the Clinical Transfusion and Patient Blood Management Working Parties under the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT). His contributions have been recognised through multiple awards, including the ISBT Small Grant Award (2022) and the Harold Gunson Fellowship (2025). He has published extensively in peerreviewed journals. 

Looking to the future, Dr. Khatiwada is determined to shape the landscape of haematology and transfusion medicine in low- and middle-income countries. “I am deeply honoured to receive the RCPE 75% Scholarship.
