Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK publishes independent review of MRCP(UK) Part 2 written examination error (September 2023)

The Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom has today (6th November 2025) published the independent review undertaken by Professor John McLachlan into the error that occurred during the MRCP(UK) Part 2 Written Examination held on 6 September 2023 (Diet 2023/3).

Professor Andrew Elder, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh said:

The College welcomes Professor McLachlan’s independent report, which thoughtfully investigates the circumstances relating to the MRCP(UK) Part 2 Written examination error (September 2023 diet). 

We are carefully considering the recommendations laid out in the report, and we are committed to working with Federation partners to use the report’s findings as a roadmap to restore confidence and trust in these examinations. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the independent review.
