College welcomes CMO’s Annual Report “Realistic Medicine: Critical Connections.”
The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh has welcomed the 2024/25 annual report from Scotland’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Sir Gregor Smith.
The report “Realistic Medicine: Critical Connections” highlights a range of key themes including the challenges the health system is facing, the principles which enable careful and kind care and how connection and belonging are essential for our wellbeing, and how our connection to the planet can also enhance our health and well-being.
Speaking today Professor Andrew Elder, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, said:
The College warmly welcomes this report from our Chief Medical Officer in Scotland, Professor Sir Gregor Smith.
We applaud the emphasis on the power of human connection in healthcare, and the growing need, in an ever more technologically driven healthcare environment, for strong doctor– patient relationships.
Such relationships require systems that provide time to the doctor and the opportunity to develop continuity of care. We will continue to encourage changes in the NHS in Scotland to achieve that end.
