College statement on Ahmedabad, Air India Tragedy
The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (“the College”) is deeply shocked and saddened by the air disaster in Ahmedabad in India involving the London-bound Air India Flight 171.
Speaking today Professor Sunil Bhandari (Vice President, England & Wales), said:
The College is extremely distressed by this devastating incident in Ahmedabad and the tragic loss of life involving both those on board the flight and those on the ground. We send our sincere condolences to the families and friends of all those who have lost loved ones in India, the UK and elsewhere.
We are also thinking of all those on the ground who have been injured, not least those medical students at the BJ Medical College.
Furthermore, we pay tribute to the emergency services in the region and to all those doctors and healthcare workers and members of the public striving to care for the injured, including those with links to our College.
The College is very proud of its strong and enduring connections with India and we want our many Fellows and Members there to know that they are in our thoughts at this heartbreaking time.
