Call for Abstracts
Scientific & Quality Improvement Abstracts:
- Abstracts are invited for this meeting for poster or podium presentation. SSP welcomes work on any clinical, scientific or service topic from the breadth of general medicine and its subspecialties, as well as on topics such as patient safety, quality improvement and clinical audit.
- Abstracts will be scored and the top-scoring will be selected for oral presentation.
- We are looking for a 10 minute case presentation, 8 minutes for presentation of the case and 2 minutes for questions from the audience.
Case presentations:
- Case presentations are invited for poster or podium presentation. SSP welcomes any case from General Medicine or its subspecialties that demonstrates clinical learning points that would be relevant and of interest to a general medicine audience.
- Abstracts will be scored and the top-scoring will be selected for oral presentation.
- We are looking for a 10 minute case presentation, 8 minutes for presentation of the case and 2 minutes for questions from the audience.
- It is acceptable (with any permissions if relevant) to re-use case presentations that you may have done at grand rounds / meetings in your hospital in recent past.
Prizes:
The best presenter of a scientific abstract will be awarded the prestigious Fitzgerald Peel Prize. There are also prizes available for the best case presentation, the best poster and best student poster.
General Information:
- The deadline for all submissions is 9am, Wednesday 13 May 2026
- For your submission, please follow the online link to submit your abstract: https://forms.office.com/e/e1gSfxrSTG
- The word count for an abstract is 300 words in total
- No figures, tables or images can be submitted to this form but they can be used in any presentation on the day.
- For case reports, ensure that you include an introduction, case summary, learning points, conclusions.
- For scientific abstracts, please include an introduction, patients and methods, results and conclusions.
- For QI abstracts please include introduction, patients and methods, results and conclusions.
- SSP will contact select and notify presenters of selection in June.
- This event is in person only and therefore accepted abstract authors will be invited to present in person at the venue.

Refund Policy
If you should have to cancel your participation at this meeting 28 days before the event (after Wednesday 19 August), the registration fee will be refunded to you, thereafter no refund will be given.
Membership to the Scottish Society of Physicians
Membership is open to all NHS and Academic Physicians in General Medicine and its sub-specialties including associate specialists, specialist doctors and trainees. Associate membership is open to all Nurses & other Allied Health Professionals.
The present membership is around 400 and consists of current and retired physicians who are, or were, based in Scotland.
Membership benefits include:

- Eligibility for Grants and Fellowships (dependent upon availability and a successful application)
- Subscription to the Scottish Medical Journal

Certificates: All relevant events are approved for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). To receive a CPD certificate delegates must have completed the online feedback survey. The survey will close 28 days after the event at 23:59 on Wednesday 14 September 2026, with certificates being issued shortly after this. The survey cannot be completed after it has closed.
Getting to the venue: The Kingsmills Hotel is located on Culcabock Road in Inverness, and getting here is easy from the city centre. Free guest car parking is available. For those arriving by public transport, Kingsmills is less than a 10-minute taxi ride from Inverness train station, and 20 minutes away from Inverness Airport. Local bus links are also available.
Accommodation: For the accommodation, please visit Booking.com and other hotel websites for your stay. There are several larger hotels, bed & breakfasts available to choose from in Inverness city centre close.
Photography: Photographs may be taken at this event. Photographs may be used by the Society on digital and printed publicity material. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let a member of staff know at the registration desk.
Refund policy: If you have to cancel your place within 28 days of this event, we regret that we are unable to provide a refund.
