Overview

This focused dermatology half day course is designed to equip medical professionals with the practical skills and clinical confidence needed to assess and manage common acute skin presentations encountered in general medical practice.

Delegates will learn how to:

recognise key dermatological conditions
formulate accurate differential diagnoses
initiate appropriate investigations
manage challenging presentations such as blistering disorders, erythroderma, red legs, and generalised pruritus.

Through expert-led teaching and case-based discussion, participants will develop

a structured approach to diagnosis and treatment
helping to improve patient outcomes
optimise care pathways.

The course also highlights important dermatological red flags, enabling delegates to identify serious or potentially life-threatening conditions and understand when urgent specialist dermatology assessment is required.

Ideal for physicians, trainees, and healthcare professionals managing acute medical patients, this half day course provides clinically relevant knowledge that can be applied immediately in everyday practice

13:05	The patient with red legs distinguishing cellulitis from common mimics recognising venous, inflammatory and other causes of the red leg practical management and avoiding unnecessary antibiotics or admission
13:50	The red all over patient (interactive case-based session) a structured approach to erythroderma and widespread inflammatory skin disease recognising the systemically unwell dermatology patient initial investigations, supportive management and common pitfalls

14:50	The blistering patient (interactive case-based session) recognising common and important causes of blistering in acute medical practice a practical approach to assessment, investigations and initial management identifying red flags and when urgent dermatology input is required
15:35	The itching patient a structured approach to generalised pruritus with and without a rash recognising systemic causes and choosing appropriate investigations symptomatic treatment and when further specialist assessment is required

Certificates

All relevant events are approved for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). To receive a CPD certificate delegates must have completed the online feedback survey. The survey will close 28 days after the original broadcast of the event on 10 February 2027, with certificates being issued shortly after the college reopens following the seasonal close.

Certificates cannot be issued after the survey has closed.

Catch-up

Registered delegates can view this event on catch-up for up to 28 days following the live event until, i.e. until 10 February 2027. Please note that in line with Federation rules, the CPD period is 28 days from the live event. To obtain a CPD certificate you must have completed the online feedback survey by 10 February 2027.

If you are unable to attend this event live but would like to view this event for 28 days post-event and qualify for a CPD certificate (if feedback is completed), please register before the live event is due to take place in order to be given access.
