The College provides plenty of opportunities for doctors to continue their professional development (CPD). A selection of CPD sources the College offers and how to get these CPD points are highlighted below.

Educational events

Symposia (5-11 CPD credits)

Throughout the year the College organises a broad range of CPD-approved clinical and non-clinical symposia and meetings to complement the medical specialties and support management and training. We also organise regional symposia across the UK (including Midlands, Preston, Stockton, Aberdeen, Ayr, Dundee and Northern Ireland).

Evening Medical Updates (EMUs) (2 CPD credits)

Our free-to-attend 'Top 20 Presentations' from the GIM training curriculum are streamed live to participating hospitals and practices across the UK and overseas as part of the College's efforts to support easy access to continuing medical education. Find out more.

Courses (6-27 CPD credits)

The College hosts and organises a number of courses that cover the medical specialties and professional support and development. These include:

  • The RCPE Course in Acute and General Internal Medicine
  • Oncology
  • Gastroenterology & Hepatology
  • Medicine of the Older Adult (Geriatrics)
  • Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV)/Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA)

Recorded lectures from our live events and challenging cases with self-assessment questions allow members to claim up to a further 10 CPD credits under the personal credits category.

Examining is an excellent way of obtaining good general medical CPD, provides excellent networking opportunities (especially for relatively new consultants)
