Dr Marcel Jumbo is a Nigerian medical doctor and clinical researcher with a growing interest in anaesthesia, critical care and cardiovascular medicine. He graduated from medical school in 2020 and completed his internship at Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Port Harcourt, where his early exposure to the care of acutely and critically ill patients helped shape his interest in critical care.

Following his internship, Marcel worked as a Medical Officer before moving to the United Kingdom, where he gained experience within the NHS while completing a Master of Public Health. He later returned to Nigeria and currently works as a Resident Medical Officer in the Department of Cardiology at RSUTH, combining clinical practice with cardiovascular research, quality improvement and medical education.

His research has included work on cardiovascular disease and outcomes among critically ill patients, as well as broader interests in emergency and critical care systems in Nigeria. Personal experiences of bereavement, together with witnessing the consequences of limited access to timely critical care, have strengthened his commitment to improving outcomes for critically ill patients, particularly in resource-limited settings.

Marcel plans to pursue residency training in Anaesthesia and Critical Care. He hopes the MSc in Critical Care at the University of Edinburgh will provide a strong academic foundation for this next stage of his clinical career and support his long-term goal of contributing to more accessible, high-quality critical care.

He is delighted and grateful to receive the RCPE Scholarship supporting his studies.
