The College's primary training responsibility is to develop and oversee the specialty curricula within medicine. We do this jointly with our sister Colleges, through the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians’ Training Board (JRCPTB). All UK medical trainees must be enrolled with JRCPTB.

We have developed resources to support your training:

  • The guide to Specialty training in medicine contains details on postgraduate medical education and training in the UK.
  • The Medical Careers Resource provides a useful first-hand overview of what it's like to work in a different specialties.
  • We deliver an extensive programme of educational events and courses throughout the year.
  • We offer support for the MRCP (UK) training with PACES preparation courses which take place through the year.
  • The College is a sponsor for the Medical Training Initiative (MTI), a UK Government scheme that allows a number of international (non-EU) medical graduates to train for up to 2 years in the UK.

Internal Medicine Training

The Internal Medicine Training (IMT) programme is a new training model that is replacing core medical training from August 2019. The information and the training materials prepared for the curriculum are available on the JRCPTB website

You can also watch a Q&A on IMT with Dr Mike Jones, Director of Training, and Dr Anna Olsson-Brown, Chair of the RCPE Trainees and Members' Committee, on our Education Portal.

Trainees and Members' Committee

Our Trainees and Members' Committee is one of the UK's most active and influential trainee groups and it ensures the views and experiences of trainees are represented to policymakers. It also provides resources to support you at all stages of your career, from medical student to consultant.
