John Munro initially joined the Royal Army Medical Corps and trained as a physiotherapist before graduating from Edinburgh University in 1960. He took up roles in Eastern General and Edenhall hospitals, where the Medical Units proved extremely popular with medical students and young graduates. He published extensive research on the clinical management of obesity. Munro served on the College’s Geriatric Medicine Committee in 1982 and was elected to Council in 1985. He later took on the post of College Registrar from 1993 until 1997 and developed an annual College Art Exhibition to support Scottish artists and College sponsored charities.
