Appointment: Consultant members on MRCP(UK) Scenario Writing Group

The Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK is seeking to appoint new Consultant members to the MRCP(UK) Scenario Writing Group (SWG), which is responsible for producing new scenarios for stations 2 and 4 of the PACES Examination. We are looking to appoint six Consultants, in any of the following specialties: Cardiology, Geriatric Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Infectious Diseases, Dermatology, Neurology, Nephrology, Respiratory Medicine, Rheumatology, or Haematology.

Successful applicants will attend be expected to generate station 2 and 4 scenarios as directed by the Chair of the SWG and the MRCP(UK) Scenarios Editorial Committee (SEC); ensure the academic objectives in terms of scenario writing and producing assessment materials are met; assist in any review of the scenario writing process to ensure sufficient scenarios of quality are produced; and keep abreast of developments in the world of medical education and medical practice ensuring the assessment material remains up-to-date and relevant to the curriculum and meets the standards required by the General Medical Council (GMC).

Applicants will be expected to attend meetings and participate in training as required. This includes attending the next training day on Tuesday 14th November 2017 at the Royal College of Physicians, London from 10.30am–5pm.

Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply:

  • Hold the MRCP(UK) or an equivalent postgraduate diploma
  • Hold a Consultant position in Cardiology, Geriatric Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Infectious Diseases, Dermatology, Neurology, Nephrology, Respiratory Medicine, Rheumatology, or Haematology
  • Be registered with a licence to practice and in good standing on the GMC register
  • Be up-to-date as appropriate with relevant national guidelines, CPD requirements, employer’s equality and diversity training and appraisal process
  • Be able to attend the meetings of the SWG (one meeting annually held in Crewe, England and one annual training day) and take on work between the meetings.

This is a non-salaried position, although all reasonable expenses and travel costs incurred in travelling to meetings will be met by MRCP(UK) Central Office in line with the Federation expenses policy. The Federation awards CPD credits for participation in scenario writing activities.
The tenure of Consultant appointments is five years. Subject to mutual agreement with the Chair individual tenure may be extended by up to a maximum of five years to ensure orderly succession planning. Attendance at meetings is monitored and members may be asked to step down if they fail to attend regularly.
