Biography

Dr Martin Eastwood was a Gastroenterologist who served as Honorary Librarian of the College. After graduating from the Edinburgh Medical School, Eastwood specialised in cholesterol and his research into dietary fibre led to his career in the Gastroenterology Unit at the Western General Hospital. After gaining his Membership in 1966 and becoming a Fellow of the College in 1972, Eastwood was elected as Honorary Librarian and participated in numerous schemes to engage a wider public with the history of medicine. Eastwood was also a prolific author, writing more than 260 refereed papers and contributing to 4 books throughout his professional career.
