Commenting, Professor Derek Bell, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, said:

"We welcome the Scottish Government's plans to protect the status of EU nationals working in the NHS in Scotland and its recognition of the essential role that they play in our medical workforce. We would like to see similar assurances for EU nationals working in the NHS in all parts of the UK.

"There remains a great deal of uncertainty regarding the future impact of Brexit on health care in the UK. This College is committed to ensuring that excellent standards of patient care, medical training and academic research are maintained as the implications of Brexit unfold.  Scotland's relationship with Europe must maintain full medical mobility across the UK to ensure Scotland remains an attractive place to work and train."
