William Thomas Ritchie

William Thomas Ritchie was born in Edinburgh in 1873. He was educated at the University of Edinburgh, graduating MB in 1896. After graduation he undertook further study in Vienna before returning to Edinburgh to carry out bacteriological research in the laboratory of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1900 and elected a Fellow in 1905. In 1911 he was appointed Assistant Physician to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. During the First World War he served as a Captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps, with service in Edinburgh, Egypt and Gallipoli. He was appointed Professor of Medicine in 1928 and served as President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh from 1935 to 1937. He died in Edinburgh in 1945.
