William Hutcheson

William Hutcheson received his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh on 1 August 1838. He served as physician to the Glasgow Royal Lunatic Asylum and as the first physician superintendent of the Gartnavel Royal Asylum, holding both posts for over eight years. Hutcheson was called as an expert witness at the 1843 trial of Daniel McNaughton. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 6 February 1844.
