William Henderson was born in Thurso in 1810. He graduated MD at Edinburgh in 1831 and pursued further study in Berlin, Paris and Vienna. In 1832 he was elected physician to the Edinburgh Fever Hospital and later became pathologist at the Royal Infirmary. In 1842 he was appointed Professor of Pathology at the University of Edinburgh. After adopting homeopathic practice he lost his hospital post and much of his private practice. Henderson died in Edinburgh in 1872.
