William Haldane

William Haldane was born in Stirlingshire in 1847. He began his education in Stirling before continuing his studies at the University of Edinburgh. Haldane then moved to the University of Glasgow where he graduated in 1872. After graduating Haldane served as a resident physician at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. In 1876 he obtained his MD and was admitted to Fellowship of the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He subsequently was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1895. Haldane also practised medicine in Braemar, Aberdeenshire where he became acquainted with the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII. Later in life Haldane returned to Stirling where he served as Justice of the Peace and was also, at various times, chairman of the school board, the water company and other public bodies. William Haldane died in Stirling in 1914.
