William Gordon Woodrow Sanders

William Gordon Woodrow Sanders was born in Edinburgh in 1865, the son of William Sanders FRSE, Professor of Pathology at the University of Edinburgh. He graduated MB CM from the University of Edinburgh in 1889. He worked at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and served as Resident Pathologist at Rainhill Asylum, Lancaster, before returning to Edinburgh as Assistant to the Professor of Clinical Medicine. In 1893 he acted as a medical witness in the Ardlamont case. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1892 and was elected a Fellow in 1894. Following illness, he moved to Cannes, where he obtained a licence to practise medicine in France from the University of Montpellier in 1896 and worked as a general practitioner with a particular interest in diseases of the heart. He died in 1921.
