William Fordyce

William Fordyce was born in Liverpool in 1863 to parents explained from Fife and was educated at Anstruther and the University of St Andrews, initially qualifying in arts. He began medical studies at the University of Edinburgh in 1888, graduating with first-class honours and receiving the Buchanan Scholarship in Midwifery and Gynaecology. He undertook further study in Leipzig and Berlin before completing his medical degree in Edinburgh in 1893. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1898 and served as Lecturer in Midwifery at the University of Edinburgh. He was active in the Edinburgh Obstetrical Society and was a foundation Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He died in Tillicoultry in 1941.
