William Cuming

William Cuming was born in Edinburgh, the son of merchant James Cuming. After beginning his studies at the University of Edinburgh, he continued his education in France and the Low Countries, receiving his MD from the University of Rheims in 1736. Following his father's death, he settled in Dorchester, Dorset, where he practised medicine for many years. Cuming petitioned the University of Edinburgh for a diploma in 1750 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1752. He died in Dorchester in 1788.
