William Crochley Sampson Clapham

William Crochley Sampson Clapham was born in Wakefield circa 1847 and educated at the University of Cambridge and Guy's Hospital, London. He travelled as a ship's surgeon to China and served as a surgeon during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. On returning to Britain, he was appointed Assistant Medical Officer at Wakefield Asylum. He was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1881 and elected a Fellow in 1899. He died in Sussex in 1923.
