Thomas Young

Date of Fellowship admission: 12 December 1707
Thomas Young was the son of Janet Ross and George Young, a surgeon. He received his medical degree from the University of Utrecht on 18 June 1694, submitting his dissertation 'De natura et usu lactis in diversis animalibus'. He was licensed to practise on 23 September 1707 and admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 12 December that same year. Young became the first Professor of Midwifery at the University of Edinburgh and was admitted to the Incorporation of Surgeons in May 1751, later serving as Deacon in 1756. In 1750 he published a syllabus of lectures on surgery and midwifery.
