Thomas Simson

Thomas Simson was born in Kirktonhall, Ayrshire in 1696 to John Simson and Agnes Simson. He was awarded an MD in Glasgow in 1720 and in 1722 was appointed as the first medical professor at the University of St Andrews, a post he held until his death. Some of his works include 'De re medica' (1726), 'De erroribus circa materiam medicam' (1726), 'System of the Womb' (1729) and 'Enquiry on the Vital and Animal Actions' (1752). He died in 1764.
