Thomas Monck Burn-Murdoch was born in Edinburgh in 1854, the son of John Burn-Murdoch of Gartincaber, Doune. He was educated at Begbie's and Collegiate Schools before studying medicine at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1877. He established a practice in Morningside and served as a Physician at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children for over twenty years. During the First World War he worked as a Medical Officer at Dalmeny House and other war hospitals. He died in Gartincaber, Doune, in 1938.
