Thomas Kidd joined the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1797 and later studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh in 1802. He received his MD from the University of Aberdeen in 1819 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 4 November 1823.
