Thomas Jackson Thyne was born and trained in Edinburgh, earning his MB CM from the University of Edinburgh in 1885. One of five brothers to enter the medical profession, he spent his career in Edinburgh, working as Medical Officer to the local council until his retirement in 1927. He later emigrated to Australia and died in Sydney in March 1931 aged seventy-two.
