Thomas Cochrane

Thomas Cochrane received an MD from the University of Glasgow in 1784. Having lived for many years on St Christopher (St Kitts and Nevis), he developed abolitionist sympathies and in 1789 presented a paper to the Edinburgh chapter of the Society for Effecting the Abolition of the Slave Trade. He later served as Inspector and Surgeon of Prisons in Liverpool and studied the eating habits of Charles Domery. He died about 1810.
