Thomas Bogie Hamilton was born in Melrose in 1879. He graduated MB from the University of Edinburgh in 1902 and served as Resident Physician at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh. In 1906 he moved to Egypt as Medical-Legal Expert to the Egyptian Ministry of Justice and Native Tribunal. He was appointed Professor of Forensic Medicine at Cairo in 1910 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1914. He was commissioned into the Royal Army Medical Corps at the outbreak of the First World War and died while in charge of the Military Hospital in Cairo.
