Samuel Sproule

Samuel Sproule was born in Ireland in 1774. He obtained a certificate from the Corporation of Surgeons in 1796 and served as an assistant surgeon in the Indian Medical Service in Bombay, later being promoted to surgeon in 1803. He obtained his MD from the University of St Andrews on 4 July 1818 and was admitted a Licentiate of the College on 4 August 1818 and elected a Fellow on 3 November 1818. He became Superintending Surgeon in Bombay in 1819. He returned to Britain on furlough in 1826, retired from practice in 1828 and died in Cheltenham on 31 May 1829.
