Samuel McDowell

Samuel McDowell was born in 1768. He was a medical student at the University of Edinburgh between 1786 and 1787. He received his MD from the University of St Andrews in 1805 by examination and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh the same year. He was appointed physician at the County Monaghan Jail and Infirmary in Ireland, where he worked for forty years. He died in February 1845 aged 77.
