Samuel Burnside Boyd Campbell

Samuel Burnside Boyd Campbell was born in India in 1890, the son of Irish Presbyterian missionaries. He was educated at Foyle College, Londonderry, and the University of Edinburgh, qualifying MB in 1912. After completing resident appointments at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, he entered practice in Belfast. On the outbreak of the First World War he volunteered for the 36th Ulster Division and served with the 108th Field Ambulance, RAMC, being awarded the Military Cross in 1918. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1919 and pursued a long career in cardiology at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. He retired to Ballycastle in 1954 and died on 28 February 1971.
