Robert Graham

Robert Graham was born in Stirling in 1786. He graduated at Edinburgh in 1808 and then studied at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London before settling in Glasgow. He became a physician to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1812 and was appointed the city's first professor of botany in 1818. In 1820 he became professor of botany and keeper of the king's garden in Edinburgh, overseeing the transfer of the garden from Leith Walk to Inverleith Row. In 1840 he was appointed President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. Graham died in Perthshire in 1845.
