Robert Edmund Scoresby-Jackson was baptised in Whitby in 1833. He trained at St George's Hospital, London, and studied in Paris and Edinburgh before completing his MD in 1857. He lectured in medicine at Surgeons' Hall, Edinburgh, and in 1865 was appointed Physician to the Royal Infirmary. He died in Edinburgh in 1867.
