Robert Carnegy studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh from 1813 to 1816 and became a member of the Royal Medical Society in 1814. He qualified MD in 1817 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 3 February 1824.
