Richard Carter graduated MD from the University of Aberdeen in 1869. By 1875 he was practising as a Surgeon at the Bath Mineral Water Hospital. He was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1887 and was elected a Fellow of the College in 1900.
