Reginald Read became a Licentiate of the College in 1859 and a Fellow in 1865, having trained at the London Hospital. He practised in Guildford Place and Jewin Street, London, with his father, Septimus Read, until their partnership was dissolved in 1865. He later practised for a time with his son, Reginald Bligh Read, before the latter emigrated to Sydney. Read served as Physician to the British National Life Assurance Association and as Surgeon and Director of the English Widows' Fund and General Life Assurance Association.
