Peter McBride

Peter McBride trained at the University of Edinburgh, earning his MB CM in 1876 and his MD in 1881, following a period of study at the University of Vienna. An otologist and laryngologist, he was the first Consulting Surgeon to the Ear and Throat Department at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and the first Lecturer in Diseases of the Ear and Throat at the University of Edinburgh. He authored several textbooks, including 'A Guide to the Study of Ear Diseases' (1884), and edited the second edition of W G Porter's 'Diseases of the Throat, Nose and Ear for Practitioners and Students' (1916). He retired in 1903 but later undertook voluntary work at the Second Scottish General Hospital during the First World War. He died in 1946 aged ninety-two.
