Peter Alexander Young was born in Australia to Scottish parents and moved to Edinburgh to study medicine, graduating MD in 1870. He studied in Vienna and served as assistant to the Badischer Frauenverein in Heidelberg during the Franco Prussian War. He was House Surgeon at Perth Infirmary before returning to Edinburgh to establish a practice, first in Portobello and later in the city. He became a Fellow of the College in 1874 and served as Treasurer from 1887 to 1908, resigning due to ill health. He died in Bournemouth on 25 June 1909.
